Capital One ASM (Area Sales Manager) interview questions

I’d like to start by saying that the hiring process at Capital One, as well as my experience with the recruiter, was overall not terrible. I was given all the necessary resources and support to prepare. I applied on 7/25, and within a week, I was sent an assessment. A few weeks later, I had a phone screen with the recruiter, and shortly thereafter, my Power Day was scheduled. I was given a month to prepare, with ample tools and details to get ready for the presentation, two behavioral interviews, and a mock territory review. While the initial process was structured and professional, things took an unfortunate turn. I was initially told I would hear back within 48 hours after Power Day, but this timeline was disrupted when the hiring manager went on vacation. After she returned, I was asked to give the team another week to finalize discussions. Despite being reassured that I had passed Power Day “with flying colors” and that they wanted to hire me, I was left waiting for a month without a clear answer. Today, I found out that, despite being a recommended candidate in their system, the hiring manager’s superior decided to hire an internal candidate. After putting in so much work and going through the grueling process of traveling for Power Day, only to be told repeatedly that I was the preferred choice, it felt like the rug was pulled out from under me. I don’t fault my recruiter, who was fantastic and communicative throughout the process, but this outcome was extremely disheartening. It raises questions about the ethics of leading candidates on, especially after being told that no one else was under consideration and that only final details needed to be smoothed out. This experience was painful, and I believe it reflects poorly on the hiring practices within Capital One’s organization.
