Phone screen by hiring manager was 10 minutes before deciding to bring me for onsite interview with presentation. Most of the time was discussing presentation. I should have payed attention to the statement: "prepare for a 30 minute presentation on something technical and then another 30 minutes for tearing your presentation apart" because that seemed to be the mentality from the first slide -very negative. The presentation I gave had been given two times before in my own company: once to executive director level management, and a second time to a cross function group who had to approve my design changes. This was a highly polished presentation reviewed several times and had very little challenge to present in my own company. For the Carbon presentation I had added several more pictures to give background and help make it easier to understand for those who did not have background. But simple tolerance stack diagram and assembly pictures just were too much to handle and they insisted on explaining things that were not relevant to the overall problem solving I was trying to discuss. I am not sure how they solve problems at Carbon with such mental blocks locking them up to see anything in front of them. They seemed focused on finding what is wrong instead of trying to understand. That is a red flag to me and I do not want to work with negative people. I have not so far in my 20+ years of experience and I am not going to start now. Nobody is that great and we need to work together with understanding to solve real problems. Another thing that surprised me and almost made me turn back from the interview to begin with was parking. I had arrived during lunch time which should have made getting a parking space easy since people usually go out for lunch. There is about a 20 foot boarder of payment that surrounds the building where cars pile in where they can. I went around the building three times hoping someone would leave for lunch. But no one left, probably for fear of loosing their precious parking space. I ended up parking several blocks away on a public street lucky without a time limit or I would have had that to worry about. Luckily I came early and spent a half hour for parking. The recruiter should have let me know about that issue. So if you go for an interview prepare for parking challenges. Good luck.
