I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at CardFlight in May 2023
Interview
Took a month to reach out after the online application and then an interview a week for 5 weeks. Decision response time after each interview was 1-2 days.
- 30 min screening with the hiring manager (VP)
- 45 min Head of Talent
- 45 min the current EM being backfilled for
- 60 min pair interview: peer manager + senior engineer
- 45 min the hiring manager again
- offered feedback in the rejection email, which I requested and got a phone call from the HM detailing the reasons for the decision.
Standard behavioral and experience questions in all interviews. No technical questions, at least not as far as the stage I reached. In some interviews it was more structured "tell me about a time" and in others purely conversational digging into managerial philosophy and thought process.
The feedback at the end, as frustrating as it was, should not be taken for granted as there are plenty of companies out there who just leave you wondering.
Please note the one-week gap between interviews creates a sense of a multi-round process, but based on the feedback at the end it is more of a "rolling virtual on-site" such that "passing" one interview does not mean they were happy with everything and the decision is only made at the end.

Other Engineering Manager Interview Reviews for CardFlight
Very long. I had a total of 7 interviews with everyone asking the same questions. Had to tell my career story each time. It became very rote after the 3rd interview. I really wish they would have made up their minds about whether they wanted to hire me a lot sooner. I wasted many hours interviewing. Ultimately they decided against hiring me because of an assumption they made about what I wanted and about my lack of technical skills. They did not ask any technical questions, and I have almost a decade in tech. So that reason for not hiring me makes zero sense. Ultimately, it seemed like a great fit, so their assumptions about what I wanted are really disappointing. Waste of time and energy.
