I interviewed at Carrot Fertility (Menlo Park, CA)
Interview
Well structurised, very polite. Interesting questions. Great response. The interview involved a discussion of my skills and experience, alignment with company values, and role expectations. I answered questions about problem-solving and teamwork
I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Carrot Fertility
Interview
Initial phone screen with HR, then a technical pair programming interview where you have to fulfill requirements in a python+flask app (although I was told the company uses .NET/C#). Ended up wasting a lot of time with having to talk aloud while having to search the internet to find python and SQLite functions. My interviewer was a junior with 1 year of experience. I’m all for juniors being involved in the interview process, but they should only be evaluating team fit and behavioral. Only senior engineers should be conducting technical interviews since juniors typically lack the technical depth to be able to accurately gauge how technically proficient a candidate is. If their goal is to see how a candidate handles unknown requirements in an unknown stack, only a senior
engineer (or almost-senior mid level) can judge this. I don’t intend to demean anyone’s experience level, but I felt this was a bit lacking in care or respect from the company. I’m disappointed I wasted my time.
