I was contacted the day after applying online to schedule a phone screen for the next day.
Round 1) Incredibly brief screen with HR. This person knew essentially nothing of substance about the role, just wanted to ask for my salary requirements, confirm work location was OK, and reviewed the interview stages. I don't think this call was even 10 minutes long. This call was weird as the recruiter called me 8 minutes before our scheduled time. I had to ask him to call me back because I had planned to step out of my office and into a private space to take it...
Round 2) A week later was a phone interview with the VP of the function. The recruiter told me this would last 30-45 minutes. In actuality, I was called 10 minutes late, with the VP apologizing and exasperated with HR for "scheduling interviews back to back to back." This interview felt rushed and scattered, lasting only about 20 minutes.
Round 3) A week later had another phone call scheduled with the immediate supervisor. (Yes, it's weird that I spoke to the VP before the supervisor.) The supervisor missed the call time completely. He called me one hour after my scheduled interview start time, apologizing profusely. We rescheduled for the next day and he didn't seem to have any prepared questions, making for a very strange interview that often went wildly off-topic.
I accepted another job offer shortly after Round 3 and proactively removed myself from consideration at ChargePoint, so I'll never know if I would have moved on. I was told early on that there would be four total rounds.
As you can no doubt tell, I was deeply put off by the chaotic interview process. One person calling well ahead of our agreed upon time, one person calling late, and one person missing our call entirely. Imagine working for a company and chain of command like that... Frankly, I was also put off because I asked both the VP and supervisor about the fact that they were looking to hire a Manager level position with responsibilities far higher than a Manager would have. (I knew of the person who this job was replacing, who was at the Director level, which is where peers at other companies would be with these duties.) There was no satisfactory reason given and I think it's a red flag when companies try to do this.
