This will be long, but please read all of it if you want some honest and unbiased feedback:
The interview process was incredibly tedious and a huge red flag! It was a 5 part interview with methods that lacks scientific, practical, or logical backing. It spans over 3-4 weeks and is very cumbersome.
1) The first interview was an initial screening about the position…easy.
2) Second interview was The Ravens Test, which is an IQ test. Researchers have argued that the test is not a true measure of intelligence, as it only assesses certain types of cognitive abilities and does not take into account other important factors such as creativity, emotional intelligence, and social skills…..HUGE ASPECTS if not the most important in recruiting and HR. Additionally, some have argued that the test may be culturally biased, as it is primarily based on Western cultural norms and values. It was a viable test in the 1940’s military experimentation and measures fluidity of thoughts. I ENJOY IQ TESTS, and PRACTICE THEM FOR FUN, BUT DO NOT SEE A CORRELATION WITH THE OUTDATED TEST TO A RECRUITER POSITION, AS VALID. There are more arguments to why it wouldn’t be valid than would be. They allow one-two days to prepare if it is something new. Again, I love these, so I passed it, but I know it is a very poor indicator for knowledge and competence ESPECIALLY in the People management and HR field.
3) Interview with the manager. The manager asked redundant questions about the resume, and behavioral questions. Overall, basic interview as expected. Not really good energy from this man, but letting it go since an effort was already put in for a test and 2 interviews at this point.
4) Fourth part: TAKE HOME ASSESSMENT. This was a 3 part assessment with multiple parts within them. It will first as to dissect 6 resumes. Then it will ask to source/find 5 candidates on Linkedin and provide explainations as to why they would or wouldn’t be a good fit. Lastly, we are to write 3 emails we would provide a candidate with if we sourced, hired, and rejected them. Seems easy for an experienced Recruiter/TA partner. I enjoyed it despite it being tedious, and again and odd indicator. It felt like a college assignment. It doesn’t measure thought process. We have to find a job description and rely on that because they don’t provide one. It’s inconsiderate to be asked to do it while having a full time job. There also happens to be “right” answers, when truly it is subjective towards everyone’s recruiting style, industry, experience, etc.
5) last interview is presenting the assessment above in a Panel interview. They test pressure, criticism, etc. AFTER a 1 hour intense and panel interview of speaking, they still went on to ask behavioral questions, paying no mind to the exhaustion of actually doing the assessment and presenting it. At this point, I was rolling my eyes inside, really questioning if I’d even accept because this is draining and incredibly inconsiderate. It shows lack of empathy, another thing crucial in recruiting and HR, that their side proved to lack. Also not measured in Ravens test, might I add.
At the end of the last interview, I was given all smiles, told I did really well, worked really hard, and all positive feedback. A day later, I get a call saying they went with another candidate. They wouldn’t tell me anything except they felt the other candidate was a better fit, which is perfectly fine. We know the ugly side of recruiting as recruiters as well.
But….
To be honest, during the assessment, I really felt the unnecessary scrutiny. I find the arrogance and ego of the recruiters to be the most interesting. The amount of judgement that was passed, is pretty awful from recruiters who I don’t see have any accreditations more than myself according to their own Linkedin profile. This whole process is pretty anti-HR. Lack of consideration for time, energy, and empathy. Anyone with self respect and true passion for Recruiting, I advise against this company. I unfortunately saw the reviews afterward, but I completely agree with the negative feedback. The recruiters are rude, judgmental, cold, and a reason why recruiters have to question recruiting.
