Applied online, process took nearly THREE months. I interviewed specifically for their Otter project. Interviews were different and IMO a good set of questions: - Phone screen w/ recruiter - Take home project to build a mini version of one of their products - Tech interview reviewing the project and adding features - Tech interview focusing on data modeling and an interesting algo - UI System design Recruiter was by far the worst part of the experience and I genuinely feel like I wouldn't have gotten anywhere had I not pestered them during the first month. Scheduling was super slow because of this. The biggest offense was them misleading me about the final interview being a presentation. The invite seemed to suggest otherwise and I reached out for clarification immediately but didn't receive an answer until the day before that it was, in fact, now a system design interview. Had to reschedule. Interviewers were professional, but the final system design interviewer sunk the interview, not following the prep material outline at all and fixating on things outside the scope of requirements: I had prepped for the exact question asked and was fully ready. The interviewer would not constrain the problem despite my attempts to define requirements, constantly insisting "It's really up to you" when asking about scope. I did my best to make considerations with respect to time and given material and when it came to design, they immediately got fixated on a theoretical mockup I had presented, diving straight into data modeling, then API design, and even asking product and optimization questions. When I offered to get back on track and move through all the designs first (as the prep outline informed and how you properly system design), they insisted to dive deeper. We never covered state management or architecture like the prep outline suggested either. By the end the interview, I had barely gotten to the second view. It was absolutely maddening considering I covered 6 views in my practice attempts and still made time. I know 3/4 of the way through that they had sunk the opportunity for me.
