This is about the "three Club Pilates" in South Brooklyn owned by the same person. I interviewed to be the owner's Personal Assistant. She wanted me to come in for two days for a paid trial. She said she'd Venmo the payment for those two days of work. Then after she offered this, she asked me: "Is there anything else I need to know about you? Because I'm going to do a background check." Cue the suspicious, hard stare. She is essentially asking you if you have a criminal history. This is illegal, though under NY law you can ask after offering a "conditional offer" of employment, and I'm guessing that's what she's trying to skirt. I farebeat once many years ago, and she started questioning me like I murdered someone. She was not compassionate about someone with no money to pay for a subway ride to a job interview. So you also don't want to work with someone with questionable morals either.
Either way, the two day trial with Venmo payment is illegal and should be enough to make you run. I see the ad was taken down one day after I offered, so she clearly has other people lined up.
Avoid and report to the authorities.
