Interview
All interviews below the 3 band level are the same:
Optional Telephone interview to screen out excess applicants.
Depending on the # of positions available, they'll interview anywhere from 2 to 8 candidates.
The interview is a panel format with the hiring manager, another manager and a HR rep (a fourth person can be present but is seldom the case)
The first part of the interview is technical and directly related to the job. ( This is optional or brief for certain positions that are newly created or developmental in nature)
The next part is the behavioral questions, consists of 7 or 8 questions designed to test the preparedness of the applicant and their fit within the organization. They highlight the applicants ability to work in teams, to lead, to come up with new ideas, to change, and to understand the companies ethical code.
The whole process is anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours plus.
I applied online. I interviewed at Con Edison (New York, NY) in Jan 2026
Interview
It was a good experience initially - first interview was short and somewhat casual, about 2 weeks later I was invited to a more formal behavioral interview - which I attended. Approx. 1 weeks later I was asked for my references and told a 3rd shorter interview would be scheduled - and thennnnn I was ghosted. I never heard a peep again - even after emailing for an update.
Interview questions [1]

Interview
The Director of the unit emailed me to schedule an interview for the position. The next week I interviewed with the Director and Senior Manager, along with a team member.
After the interview, I followed up 3 weeks later with the Director and they emailed back saying that someone will provide an update. A few days later, the Senior Manager emailed me asking for my availability. They called within two days and told me that I didn’t get the job. About a week later, I received a generic email saying that I’m no longer under consideration for the position.
