After my first interview, I got low-balled and offered a freelance position I had not applied for. I declined. Afterwards, they reached out again and invited me back for more interviews. The CEO was rude.

Question 1
The editors have devised a thorough and fair selection process. Kudos.
I interviewed for a story editor position with Joey. He and I discussed salary and he verbally agreed to what I suggested. At the end, I was verbally given an offer and a few days later received a formal offer. The formal offer was for $10k less than we'd discussed. When I brought this up and asked about benefits and additional information, I was stonewalled. I was told what I asked was "Way too much for this position" and then there were no answers to other questions at all. The same week, I received two offers from competitors for the amount we'd originally discussed. I've never seen this kind of behavior elsewhere in the industry and I've been working for ten years.
