I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Direct Energy (Toronto, ON) in Aug 2011
Interview
Phone screen with HR, then an in-person interview with the hiring manager including a timed series of writing tests, then met with the SVP of the division. The phone interview was brief and I just walked through my resume with them as requested. The in person meeting with the hiring manager was more philosophical about the communication discipline, trends, and fads, then there were five written assignments (edit a press release, write a keynote speech outline, assess a briefing for media interest), I didn't finish all of them within 30 minutes. Then 1:1 with the SVP a few days later was more personality based and relationship building
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Pretty standard for the role - behavioural based questions about a situation and how I managed it. There was nothing earth-shattering, though the writing test was really long and I didn't get through all of it - I did get an offer though. They did ask about where I wanted to be in 5-10 years and about some patterns of movement in my resume.
