Interview
I was first interviewed for around 30 mins by two people for a HR focused interview. They mainly asked questions about me, my strengths and weaknesses, background etc. Then I had a technical interview for around 2 hours with three design engineers (one senior) who I could potentially work with. I was advised during the HR interview to focus on the Senior design engineer due to amount of detail he would ask for in the questions. All three of the design engineers were were very friendly. They asked me to go through my portfolio, then asked numerous questions about the projects. They were very keen on how I found the problems, the tests I did in one project in particular to find the sources of the problems, as well as tests that solved the problem. They also wanted to know why specific materials were chosen (if any other materials were considered), product costs and manufacturing processes. They then asked me towards the end, if I was given the task to test my product, how I would go about doing that.

Question 1
The most difficult/unexpected question was to think of what mechanism could be used for the oscillating fan to make it rotate clockwise and then anti-clockwise and then draw this mechanism from a birds-eye view on paper. The reason why this was so difficult was because that after firing so many questions my brain was already pretty frazzled and we were never taught in Uni the mechanical side to product design and how things worked only how to create solutions to problems (which I think was the down fall of the interview). This section of the interview felt like it took longer than it needed as I found it difficult to produce a potential mechanism. This took around 30 mins and the senior design engineer was helpful in that he asked me to just talk out what the design could be and how it could be achieved.
I had 2 rounds in total, both was online. The 1st round consisted of mainly behavioral questions, and it was automated on a website (no interviewer). The 2nd round was a technical assessment where i had to do a presentation.
Thorough, engaging and comprehensive. For me, it was a multiple step interview with tough questions asked - from written to online recorded interview to case study to actual panel interview.

First HireVue interview quite average. Prepare yourself as you only have 3mins for each question and only 3 tries. It will also include a quick math and similar figure game. You need to react fast to achieve higher level. Final interview very technical. You are given 24hrs to study and prepare a case study on designing a product concept. Final interview mostly was about the design you propose.
You must think outside the box. Even if you dont, at least have good reasoning. If you know how competitive Dyson is, then prepare to give a spectacular answer.
