      Senior Software Developer Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Earth Class Mail

      Interview

I had a pleasant conversation with a member of management in the software department. Following that, a few days later I was told that I and select few narrowed down would receive a coding assignment to complete to move forward. The assignment was 6 hours, and was basically a full-blown micro application. I anticipated that it would be cumbersome and require a good deal of focus that most working people don't have at the end of their day, so I took a vacation day to stay home and work on it. Never again will I make that mistake. I spent closer to 8 hours on it, and submitted it incomplete. I had the impression that they were trying to squeeze a good deal of free work out applicants to add to their code base. I have done a lot of coding tests and "take home" assessments before, but this was over the top for an interview assignment. If I ever get a request like this from a prospective employer again, I'll be sending them a contract with my hourly rate.
