      Senior Product Manager Interview

      Interview

I recently went through Factorial’s interview process and appreciated the recruiter’s communication and professionalism. However, I felt that too much weight was placed on the live challenge as a deciding factor, especially in how the results of this step were interpreted. A live challenge only reflects how a candidate responds in that specific moment, and this can be influenced by their understanding of what the interviewers want to see. For instance, if someone talks about solutions, they might be judged as lacking the ability to think strategically or frame opportunities. In reality, this might simply show a difference in expectations rather than any real gap in skills. It’s entirely possible for someone to excel at both identifying opportunities and designing solutions, yet putting too much emphasis on a single exercise risks overlooking strong candidates. There were also some inconsistencies in the process. In an earlier interview, I was told the role required creative ideas for solutions, but the feedback I received after the live challenge suggested that discussing solutions was seen as a weakness. This made it unclear what was actually being evaluated. Another issue was the miscommunication about preparation. I was specifically told not to prepare anything for the live challenge, but during the session, I was asked if I had any visuals to present. While this wasn’t a major problem, it did create some unnecessary confusion. Live challenges can certainly add value to the process, but they shouldn’t overshadow a more comprehensive assessment of a candidate’s abilities and experience. I hope Factorial considers refining how they approach and interpret this step to make their process more effective.

      Interview

First a regular "who are you" interview with the recruiter/TA. Then an interview with the Product Leader. Important context: I often get offers from CEOs/managers when I meet them on a club or something similar and I went into it with a mindset of "impressing through demonstrating my expertise with a chat". I was never trained for a structured interview, so now I know the type of conciseness I missed when we spoke - a chat is not the same as an interview - so most of my failure, if not all, is on me, BUT: The Prod Dicrector I interviewed afterwards with didn't want to hear anything - she wasn't really interested in hearing my experience - it looked like she just wanted to tick some quick boxes and had I done a quick/efficient STAR, I would've passed. As someone who has interviewed people at both MINE and HER seniority, this seemed very counter-intuitive for a non-junior role, but yeah, I get it - lots of people, little time. So, if you really want a tip: practice to be quick, elevator pitch kind of interview. They prob won't want to hear your ACTUAL story (again, it makes sense, it's a 45min interview). The only issue I do have is that she lied, she said I would get feedback and that she'd answer further questions... Heard nothing after. I'm not one of the ones that mind not getting the reply, I can self-assess and do my own research, but I DO mind not getting a reply after I'm explicitly told I would get one. I truly like the company, very, very much. But after being lied to I realized I may have skipped a fire.

      Question 1

Tell me about yourself. What's your story. Why are you looking for an opportunity. The typical - nothing actually role-relevant.

      Interview
