have to wait 2 days to find out if I got the job
Phone call interview questions:
- What motivates you for a position at flight centre?
- What countries have you travelled to?
- Describe a time where you had to deal with a crisis at work, how did you deal and overcome it?
- They also asked me the reason for leaving my current job and why i initially pursued it
Group Interview
This began with a presentation that included some role playing, the first was to role play in our team our dream holiday where we were each given a budget of $5000 each the second was to discuss what "sales" meant to us and the third was something about how you could tailor everything to a customers wants and needs
This was then followed by the geography test, it seems that this test generally upholds the same ideas each time you do it from all the readings on other peoples interview processes that i did so these were what i was asked:
We were given a bali brochure and a question booklet the front page of the question book had a scenario between a travel agent and customer where the customer outlines all their wants an needs and on the back of that page were flight times, prior to starting we were told all the answers for hotels and tours with prices were in the brochure and the rest in the scenario, flight times or based on our own knowledge.
the first question was list these capital citites:
China
Scotland
Argentina
Spain
USA
Australia
Japan
Thailand
2. What is the airline code for Fiji Denpasar
3. Name 4 flights operating to Fiji (The answer was on the flight time sheet)
4. Whats the best flight for your client (you would use your scenario where she discusses her preferences and then look at the flight times)
5. List 3 reasons why you picked this flight (again you would link it to her preferences on the scenario sheet eg: because it arrives at 10am allowing for her to check in at an appropriate hour like she requested)
6. Which accomodation would you select for her (again use the scenario to uncover her preferences and then use the brochure to find a hotel based from the preferences she gives)
7. List 3 reasons why you picked that hotel (again linking to her preferences)
8. Your client wants to book a tour what tour do you pick and what is the price per person? (use your brochure and read through the scenario provided to discover what kind of tour and where your client has said)
then there were a few maths questions, there was only 3 from memory and you are provided with a calculator
they were roughly like this:
Your client and their partner had an emergency and need to change their flights and depart a day later the airfare charges a $120pp change fee then the flights increased by $80pp and the hotel has a $110pp cancelation fee how much did the change cost them in total?
find the commission and total of: (all figures are already provided)
10% of the hotel
10% of the airfare
10% of the total package cost goes to Flight centre
15% of flight centres commission goes to you
Then in the midst of the exam everyone is getting pulled away for their one on one role plays
I was given Fiji and we began basically i did well but the feedback i received directly after is what will help you
- dont assume your client wants something ask them instead eg: I offered a flight with fiji airlines and my interviewer said "no i only fly with qantas" i should have asked before offering "do you have a preference with airlines or are you flexible" I asked about who will be joining, I also asked dates but then when it came to accomodation i once again gave an offer for a hotel and assumed instead of asking their ideal location in Fiji. After the role play I was asked my opinion on how i believed it went and then i was asked to discuss a time i was struggling in my old job and feedback helped me
After this point i was feeling uncertain with the outcome, they played us another 3 videos and then they split us into groups im not too sure how it went for the other members but in my group we were congratulated and told we made it to the half way mark and were asked further questions like: what motivates us, what helps us stay organised, a time we have had to help train an employee, a time we acquired a new skill or knowledge at work, how in the past we have taken on other peoples work load, how we've achieved a goal at work
honestly this sounds quite extensive but it is very straight forward and they're looking for your people skills, definitely contribute to conversation, enjoy the interview and make friends with those around you and really just be positive and enthusiastic because that's essentially what they're looking for! they want people who are people friendly, approachable and have enthusiasm because all the geography and maths skills can be taught to you but build rapport and having great service skills can't always be.
