Quick Phone Interview asking about travel experience, what you could bring to the role, etc.
Personality/General skills test which was a bit abstract/difficult but nothing too bad
Recruitment Day in South Bank, Brisbane with about 20-30 people from all over Queensland
Some were going for different roles (sales, call centre, foreign exchange)
Smart casual/some business dress was generally worn
First there was an icebreaker task of planning a holiday in a group and present to a recruiter
They ran through a slideshow and spoke through the role and expectations, and were very transparent about the base salary and hard work involved, and answered all questions which was really good.
If offered the position they give 4 weeks training and will support you through a cert 3 & 4 in travel/tourism on the job over your first 2 years which is a pretty big deal if you're looking to commit long term.
During the slides there were some general questions that were answered by the applicants, just casual classroom-style (What would this role involve etc.)
There were 2 pieces of assessment- written task and sales role play
At the end of the slides we had 1 hour to complete the written paper- we were given a calculator for basic maths, a destination brochure, a written sales scenario and a page of potential flights and you basically had to draw upon these to answer all the questions- 1 hour was a fair amount of time.
There were also a few capital city and timezone questions that you could possibly brush up on beforehand, but everything else was specific to this written scenario.
During this, people were called out of the room to do their sales role play- it wasn't too hard but I definitely wish I had practiced- tip- take charge in the conversation, go beyond a basic back and forth chat and offer the person travel insurance !!! haha
They are not judging you on travel knowledge etc. in this part and will remind you of that beforehand- just make it up and try to act confident!!
This was definitely the most intense part of the interview (for me at least), particularly if you're not super familiar with sales and up-selling- practice if you can with a friend.
After the hour was up they split us into some groups, and asked one by one why you want to work for flight centre.
Everyone was called back within the next few days, even if you didn't get the role they gave you feedback which was good
To be really honest I walked out afterwards not sure if the role was actually a good fit for me anyways, but was still grateful for the opportunity- they mentioned they get between 2500-3000 applicants per month and about roughly 10% of those go the group interview- you're able to reapply in 6 months if unsuccessful.
Also grateful to the people on here who described their experience- definitely helps you get an idea of what to expect :))
