I applied through monster.ca. Within a few days, received an email asking me to chose a time for a phone interview in a weeks time. Phone interview was simple - questions like "What do you know about Flight Centre", "Why do you want to work here" etc. After that, I was told I would hear back the following week. About 2 weeks I finally heard back and they wanted to see me for a group assessment. Before that, you need to do an online test...it takes ages and you're answering the same questions over and over. It's one of those personality type quizzes where they can understand how you work in a team, if you're a leader etc. There is also a maths and comprehension component which is timed. Don't worry if you don't get through even half of the questions in those bits.
The group assessment is AWFUL. They get up and do the sales pitch on the company...and then show a hype real which just involves a bunch of people getting drunk in Paris and acting like twats. Then they make you sell the person sitting next to you...easy. Then a group activity. Everybody is trying to jostle for leadership position, and everyone is talking at once so they look like they're contributing whilst the recruiters essentially buzz around like flies taking notes on their clipboards.
Then they make you role play individually with the recruiters and area managers...they make you do a sales scenario where the person has zero idea where they want to go or what they want to do (so realistic) and a customer service scenario.
At the end, there is a written test - just basic geography and computer literacy questions.
After everybody finishes, they say 'hey, we finished early' (was supposed to finish at 2.30pm)...as everybody is packing up to go they read a couple of names (mine included) and said they needed us to stick back to ask a few questions about the online questionnaire we had done.
Of course, this is just a guise, and they've obviously sent the other people away because they're not interested in hiring them. I know this, because they then went on to ask everyone behavioural questions...so intimidating...in a boardroom...the group of recruiters + area managers on one side of the table, and the 6 "surviving" candidates on the other. Like...do you people get off on this power play or something? They asked a behavioural interview question to each of us so it was hard to stay focussed on your own stuff having to hear everybody elses answers. They then asked availability questions like when can you start, what area can you work in, any vacations booked in etc. And then...we'll contact you next Tuesday (heard back on Thursday).
This was honestly the WORST interview process ever. It was ridiculously lengthy and drawn out, especially considering how low the pay is. A simple face to face interview asking the right questions (not ALL questions possible) should be enough to find the right candidates.
I didn't end up getting an offer in any event...I'm not sure if it's because I messed up the behavioural interview question or if they could just tell that I wasn't into what they were selling by the time the interview was up.
I've rated the interview difficult, not necessarily because the questions or activities were hard, but just because of the sheer number of hoops they make you jump through for a mere $27K salary.
