I interviewed at Flight Centre Travel Group (Melbourne)
Interview
I applied online for a position of a Travel Sales consultant. One day later, I get an email saying I have successfully progessed into the Group Evaluation Centre in the recruitment process. The email stated this:
Dear ...
Thank you for your recent application with Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG) and taking the first step on the pathway to an exciting, challenging and truly rewarding career.
Congratulations, you've progressed to the Group Evaluation Centre in our recruitment process. This stage enables applicants to demonstrate their current skills and understanding of travel and tourism.
The Group Evaluation Centre is facilitated on our behalf by our partner, the Flight Centre Travel Academy. The session will consist of:
~Welcome - Learn about the role of a Travel Sales Consultant and what it's like to have an exciting career with FCTG
~Training on skills required for the role of a Travel Sales Consultant including customer service, sales and the Galileo booking system.
~Short assessment based on your existing sales, customer service and travel knowledge together with what you've learned in training.
Your assessment results will be submitted to the FCTG Recruitment Team. Should you pass this assessment, you'll proceed to the next stage of the recruitment process, which is an Phone Interview with the FCTG Recruitment Team.
To the appointment...
There was a link in the email which sent to a flight centre page to select a day that suited you most. I went ahead selected the day and booked in the appointment. A few days, I realised that I had other appointments on that day.. So I emailed the group evaluation people and I said I be unable to keep scheduled appointment. And I apologised. The person emails me back and says be sure to contact us on Thursday and Friday of next week. So I said yes I will thank you for understanding. I waited the whole week and emailed them
Back asking for the available sessions. Now, it's 8 days later and still no response. What do I do? Have I missed my opportunity? Can some one tell me if they have gone through this as well? Am I the only one? Can help me? 😕
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The flight centre officer asked me to book an session in the next week.
I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Flight Centre Travel Group in Jul 2026
Interview
The interview process itself was straightforward. As long as you have basic sales, customer service, and travel experience, you should be well prepared.
My interviewer, Greer, was lovely and made me feel completely at ease throughout the process. It began with a phone interview covering the basics, followed by an SHL behavioural assessment. The next stage was a group interview, although I ended up being the only candidate in my session. This interview mainly focused on STAR-based questions, which were fairly straightforward.
My expectations were raised when my references were contacted and successfully completed. I was then told I had been successful, only to find out that there were actually no positions available in my location, despite the role being advertised online. Instead, I was placed into a “talent pool.”
This was disappointing, as it feels like role availability should have been confirmed before candidates were taken through a four-stage recruitment process and before referees were asked to provide references. While I appreciated the professionalism of the interviewer and found the recruitment experience itself to be positive, I would recommend asking upfront whether there is a genuine vacancy in your location or whether you’re being considered for a talent pool. Doing so could save time and help set realistic expectations.

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Flight Centre Travel Group (Melbourne) in Sep 2025
Interview
There's two stages for the interview process after applying. First, is the phone interview, which is a simple process were they screen you and assess your background. Goes for about 15 - 30 minutes.
Second, is a virtual group interview. In my interview there was two other applicants but they were not directly applying for the same location to work at. This is the one where you need to do some research to be ahead and show that you've done so. There is a mix of videos and additional information for the role you are applying for. This phase goes for an hour to an hour and a half.
