      Director Interview

      Apr 25, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Freshworks

      Interview

I applied online and the recruiter reached out for initial discussion to understand the experience, compensation, e.t.c. 1. First discussion with the HM (Senior Director) and it was more like a conversation with few questions in-between. Good round and was confident on moving to next round. 2. Recruiter called me to confirm my availability for the Second round (Technical evaluation) with an less experienced interviewer and has 8-9 years of experience and I straight away said NO for that panel member. From my past experience, they may be exceptionally talented, but only few knows how to interview senior candidates. Recruiter convinced me to not to worry about this and it'll be taken care. 3. Second round started and after pleasantries, the interviewer wanted to me to do System Design. **************************************************** I was asking few questions on the use-cases, requirements, corner cases to be addressed , e.t.c., INTERVIEWER lost patience and said to me " Can you start the Func and Non-Func reqs now?". I thought to address them and move quicker. Me: As Freshworks didn't provide me a drawing board, can I share my screen and start adding HL components in Word Doc ? INTERVIEWER : Not needed, you can draw on the paper and show to the camera. After explaining the components, INTERVIEWER again paused me and wanted me to wrap the HL and jump into the Core section. I questioned on why are we rushing into that as it was just 10 mins into the interview. INTERVIEWER was silent. So, I shared the handwritten via the camera and the comment was "The design is too detailed and wanted to see a specific component", which the INTERVIEWER didnt allow me to complete my questions initially. 15mins into the interview. Paused me and the INTERVIEWER wanted to solve the problem in the current project to which I asked do the "System design of the problem given or solve the project problem" ?. Me: Give me some inputs to attempt understanding the problem. But, I clearly mentioned that I'll try to highlight what different I would have done and which approach would have impacted. INTERVIEWER wanted me to solve the problem and fix it for the team. To which I mentioned, I can't as the Use-cases and business requirements are unclear. Also, this is interview and I'm not a Consultant to fix in interview discussions. For that, I have to be part of the team. The interview wrapped in 20mins and INTERVIEWER said he's done and I can ask my questions. Me: What is this? We didn't complete the System Design and how's this done? INTERVIEWER : I'm fine and lets stop here if you have no further questions. ******************************** Dear Recruiters, Please work with HM on the suitable INTERVIEWER members for Senior Leadership discussions. Work with HM and try to provide the feedback as this may impact other candidates as well. Interview process is hectic and don't make it more complicated by these kind of irritating discussions.

      Interview

It took two months total, starting with the recruiter and then two interviews with the team. There was a full month between each step. The interviewers seemed very disinterested. My impression was they were interviewing just to fill some sort of quota. Further, the interviewers were on the other side of the world so the times were late night for me. Finally, they didn't have the decency to send a personal email and instead sent the generic, system-generated rejection email. Overall it was a distasteful experience and a waste of my time.

      Interview

Really slow process. Kept me waiting for weeks for an update. Wrong individuals interviewing me for the role. and the presentation I was asked to put together was the wrong context. The feedback at the end made no sense.

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Freshworks in Dec 2023

      Interview

The interview process was comprehensive but marked by delays between stages, affecting the overall experience. The process began with a recruiter screen, followed by an interview with the hiring manager. This was succeeded by two 1:1 meetings with functional leaders, culminating in a virtual onsite with two SVP leaders. The style of questions throughout was predominantly behavioral and leadership-focused, akin to the STAR method used at Amazon. Each stage of the interview was conducted professionally, with engaging and thought-provoking questions. However, the time taken to receive feedback or move to the next stage was notably protracted. After the final interview stage, I found myself needing to follow up twice, and it took approximately four weeks to receive any response. This extended period of silence and the necessity of initiating follow-ups were aspects of the process that could have been managed more efficiently and respectfully. Although the interviews themselves were well-structured, focusing on behavioral and leadership skills, there was a notable lack of functional questions directly related to the role's primary responsibilities. This imbalance in the questioning style meant that my relevant functional skills in these areas were not fully explored or demonstrated. The interview panel was all men, which did not reflect well on the diversity of the team. I would have appreciated being interviewed by at least one woman! In conclusion, while the interview process was methodical and the team was professional, the experience could be significantly enhanced with more timely communication, a balanced mix of behavioral and functional questions, and a more personalized approach to conveying final decisions. This would streamline the process and provide a more complete assessment of a candidate's fit for the role.
