Our Chief Technology Officer, Pierre Denis, asked me to pass on the following response to your review:
We are sorry that you had a negative experience with our hiring process and we understand your reaction given that you scored 94% on our coding challenge.
You are right that our approach to hiring software developers is focused on coding abilities much more than the resume. This provides a level playing field for all candidates: if a candidate can code at a high level of proficiency, we will want to talk to him or her, regardless of professional experience thus far.
Please note that the automated coding score, however useful it may be, is a crude measure of coding abilities. We do scrutinize the submitted code before selecting candidates for the next stage. We have received a large number of entry level candidate applications, so we have had to be more selective with the coding challenge to ensure those candidates who we interview have a fair chance of getting an offer.
The feedback we have received indicates most candidates approve of this approach of coding first and interviewing second, which makes our hiring as fair and open as possible, but we do understand that it makes the coding challenge more selective due to the large number of candidates applying.
