You are correct that we don’t conduct typical HR calls, but I’m sorry to hear it wasn’t enjoyable for you. I don’t think we did a good job of explaining why we conduct our interviews this way on the call, so I’d like to give you a little more information about our thought process.
We think there’s some value in the “what” on your resume, but there is far more value in the “how” and “why”. That’s why we ask so many deeper-level questions even on the first call. We want to know how you problem solve, how you approached that tough project, why you changed an established process, etc. The goal is never to make you nervous, only to make the call as meaningful as possible so GSG and you can leave with a better idea about whether this is the right role for you.
Though we will continue with our strategy for these phone calls, we have taken to heart what you’ve said about the candidate experience and are discussing ways to improve that moving forward.
