Response from our President:
Thank you for the positive feedback about our interview process. With respect to the negatives...
The Senior PM job description posted on our website is broad because our PMs manage a variety of projects, including some that are unrelated to software. As with most of our non-tech positions, and as you noted about the job posting and your interview experience, we place a lot of emphasis on a candidate's "general qualities". In fact, you exhibited one such quality we value particularly highly: an ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. However, based on your performance in the case study and feedback from several interviewers, there was a consensus that you did not exhibit a working knowledge of software development methods or management tools. We failed to uncover that during the initial screening process. Perhaps we took it for granted based on the job description and your resume, but, of course, that's no excuse.
Prior to scheduling your full day of interviews, the hiring manager spent more than 35 minutes with you which included time answering any questions you had; so we're mystified as to how you could not have had a robust understanding of it before you agreed to the final round of interviews.
You fault us with not making an effort to accommodate your schedule when scheduling your interviews. Perhaps we should be more considerate in this regard; however, it would be nearly impossible to schedule interviews with 8-10 different people if we were to offer such a courtesy. It is our experience that, generally, job applicants are willing and expect to make this kind of sacrifice, especially when a prospective employer is willing to invest so much time in making sure it's a good match for both parties, which goes to your point -- we try to treat every candidate like they are interviewing for a C-level position.
