Response from our President: You needn’t fear a “defensive response”. We appreciate your two constructive suggestions: to provide the agenda for the full day of interviews farther in advance and to consider scheduling the case study before the full day of interviews.
With regard to your criticism of our full-day interview schedule as “absurd”, we can only respond, “it works”. It’s no coincidence that some of the most admired companies in America do something similar. It not only requires a meaningful commitment from the candidate, demonstrating serious interest in Grant Street, it also requires a substantial commitment from us to have 10-12 of our employees devote hours getting to know you and your unique talents.
What you describe as the “grilling” you received from one of our recruiters in your initial interview was a serious effort to quickly establish whether there may be a match between your talents/interests/experience and the job requirements. Only when there is such evidence, as there was in your case, do we invite you to participate in a second 45-minute team video interview with a couple of prospective coworkers, which also provides an opportunity for you to ask questions of us. If that interview is successful and there is mutual interest, as there was in your case, we invite you to a full day of video interviews. At that point you should have a good idea whether it is worthwhile for you to invest a day of your time interviewing with Grant Street. Presumably you would have found it worthwhile if you had received an offer.
Evidently your self-assessment of your performance on the case study exercise doesn’t comport with the independent assessment of the person who administered it, someone who has done it dozens of times with dozens of other candidates. Nevertheless, we didn’t end your day of interviews after the case study because poor performance on the case study is not by itself sufficient to disqualify a candidate. It’s just one important indicator of potential success as a Business Analyst or Client Solutions Analyst at Grant Street. We have a number of successful employees who also struggled with it.
With regard to your complaint that you were not notified until after the break in the interview schedule that you would not receive an offer, we used that time to give due consideration to your candidacy and whether we had enough information to make an informed and fair decision. We think we did.
The most logical explanation of the different answers you received to your question about how team assignments are made is that they reflect the different experiences of the people you asked. In short, as the answers you received convey, it’s a function of our needs and your interests.
Finally, regarding your puzzlement at why we hire so many BAs and your suspicion it must be that we have high turnover, the other explanation that suggests itself is the correct one: we have a successful business. It has grown for the past 25 years and continues to grow at a compound annual rate of 25%. That obviously requires nonstop hiring of talented professionals who remain for the long-term.
We appreciate the time you devoted to interviewing with us and we hope these explanations will give you a better appreciation of our recruiting process.
