      Recruiting Coordinator Interview

      Mar 11, 2014
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Palo Alto, CA
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Guidebook (Palo Alto, CA) in Feb 2014

      Interview

Process was very fast. After applying online, I got an email back with four questions that they had prepared. I answered these thoroughly and sent it back within a couple hours. Was contacted then for a phone screen. Phone screen was with the Office Manager who is very responsive and really nice. She had some questions lined up and they were all pretty basic. Why recruiting, why Guidebook, and so on. From there I was told I would be scheduled for a Skype interview with a scheduling sim. This was scheduled for a couple days later and I got to speak with one of their recruiting consultants. She was also great and the scheduling sim was very easy (took less than 5 minutes). She asked some questions as well and wanted to know more about my interest in recruiting and the skills that I brought to that area. She seemed knowledgeable in that area and was also very easy to talk to. Next I was set up for an onsite interview with the Office Manager and CEO. The office space wasn't too hard to find, but they did not have a sign downstairs letting you know that you were in the right building. After finding the office, there was no reception, but rather you just walked into the general office space. The Office Manager greeted me after someone signaled to her and I was asked to take a seat while they finished their prep (I was about 10 minutes early). Then the Office Manager and I walked around trying to find an open office to sit and have the interview. We were even asked to switch offices with someone else on the team because they needed the bigger space. She asked similar questions to the phone and Skype interview, but was a bit more detailed about my resume. Asking about specific skills and projects that I worked on. She was personable and I really enjoyed my conversation with her. Next the CEO came in and was about the complete opposite of what I expected. His LinkedIn profile and reviews promote how outgoing and engaging he is, but I found him very reserved and not easy to connect with at all. His handshake was weak and he didn't seem like he wanted to be there. I found out during the interview that the team uses his LinkedIn profile to send out recruiting messages and so that is probably why I got the wrong impression of who I thought he might be. He didn't seem to want to have a conversation, but rather a just direct response to his questions (which were the same, and the third time I was answering them). He did ask about my background and where I came from, but truly seemed uninterested in my responses. He also asked a couple of brain teasers at the end. I received an email a week later saying that they had chosen to move in a different direction. When I asked for feedback, they said they could not agree on me because the CEO felt I didn't bring enough energy. Was definitely not what I was expecting since most people think that I am super upbeat and positive, but when someone doesn't like you, they don't like you. Disappointing, but hey he's the CEO and gets to do that if he so pleases.

The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Guidebook (San Francisco, CA) in May 2017

      Interview

I was contacted for a phone screen; after this I completed a 30-minute take home exercise. The third stage was onsite interviews with the hiring manager and CFO. After that was a final onsite interview with the CEO. The HR Manager who was hiring me was super communicative and helpful throughout the process. In fact, she is the main reason I accepted the offer. I believed in her leadership and her ability to help me develop professionally.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Guidebook (Palo Alto, CA) in Feb 2014

      Interview

I had received an email from the Office Manager shortly after I applied online, asking me to respond to about 4 questions via email by the end of the week. They were solid pre-screen questions- ones that actually made you think a bit and show that you have some background knowledge of recruitment but nothing terribly difficult. Anyway, I spent a good 2+ hours on them and felt I had some notable answers. I sent them back to the OM within two days of getting the email and then nothing. After close to two weeks I get a standard reply saying "unfortunately we will not be moving forward at this time." I wasn't particularly thrilled with this experience due to the high volume of work I was required to put in for a pre-screen and the timing it took to get a response.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      1. Often times, good developers and designers already have a job and are not actively looking for a new one. If you had the opportunity to message a potential designer or developer, draft an email you would send to a potential developer candidate who already has a job. Remember to sell them on Guidebook, and convince them on applying here 2. At this job you will be expected to phone screen candidates. What kind of questions would you ask, and how would you determine they would be good enough to bring for an onsite interview? What qualities specifically would you be looking for? (This question would be for those applying for a Sales position) 3. What have you seen on our website that appeals the most to you? 4. What excites you about recruiting?
