      Wellness Coach Interview

      Mar 9, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Denver, CO
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Health Advocate (Denver, CO) in Feb 2023

      Interview

Had an initial phone screen, then an hour long interview with hiring manager. On the initial phone screen was asked rudely "so I'm going to guess you got laid off from your previous job” because the company I had worked for had done layoffs in the last year. I actually hadn't been laid off, I chose to leave… but felt like I was left in the position to defend myself vs. be asked in a kind manner. I was then told in phone screen (not listed on job application whatsoever) that I had to have internet with a router - no other form of high-speed internet was allowed. I told her I needed to confirm what type of internet I had, and what was available in the area and I’d get back to her. Essentially, I was excited about the position but didn’t want to waste everyone’s time, so if they thought my internet wasn’t good enough… we could cancel the 2nd interview. The phone interviewer scheduled for a 2nd interview and days later I reached out again sharing all the details of my home internet including the upload speeds, etc. She ignored my email and let me go through to the hour long interview the following week. I interviewed, felt like I totally knocked it out of the park despite being worried they wouldn’t hire me because of my internet anyway… and then at the end explained my situation and that I hadn't heard back and the initial person I spoke with. The interviewer seemed annoyed that I was asking about internet. I explained again I had tried to reach out before the interview to confirm if my internet was sufficient, and she said that person would get back to me. No one ever returned my email and my application was rejected. Likely, because they read my email and determined that my internet WASN’T router based, but did not have the decency to send me an email back explaining this. The whole experience was completely unprofessional and wasted both my time and the interviewers time. It was projected like it was "my fault" that they have a policy that discriminates against people who live in the country where router based internet is hard to come by, so high speed satellite is our only option (300 mbps + by the way, extremely reliable and no reason not to choose someone over this). And, news flash, anyone with router based internet is probably close enough to the city they don't want or need a remote job. Stop discriminating against perfectly viable candidates for no good reason. My guess is they want you to “plug into a router” to track you all day long. If you don’t trust your employees, don’t hire remotely. I hope you take some of this feedback to heart when hiring in the future, but that said… I will not be applying again and will warn my fellow health coaching friends not to apply as well.

      Application

      Interview

The recruiter contacted me with interest in a phone interview. She sent me a link with her calendar to select a slot but it showed she was all booked and slots weren't available. When I contacted her back, she never replied and ignored my message.

      Interview

At first it went really well and they told me I had all the experience and would fit in nicely. The first interviewer did however warn me that the position was call center based and micro- managed. After getting through to the last round and completed the mock interview portion I received a generic email - NOT EVeN a CALL - stating I didn’t get the position - positions title wasn’t even in the email. I then reached out to the last two ladies who interviewed me to see if I could get feedback as to why I was not selected and was completely IGNORED. Turns out it was saving grace I didn’t get this position as clearly just a number to them. Not a company I would want to work for long term and I expected so much more!!!
