      Ad Trafficker Interview

      Aug 15, 2013
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Santa Monica, CA
      No offer
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Hulu (Santa Monica, CA) in May 2013

      Interview

Had an initial phone interview with a recruiter going over my resume, and she said she would set me up for a phone interview with a manager and discussed my availability to come into the office the following week. The first phone interview with an Ad Ops manager was about 30 minutes and went over my resume again, asking about what I currently do at my job, my technical background and my educational background. I was then contacted back by the recruiter to set up another phone interview rather than the in-person interview. The second phone interview was an hour with a Senior Manager. She asked similar questions again, but was really trying to delve into the specifics of my technical background (of which I do not have much). They are looking for someone with a technical/analytical aptitude, or you need to prove to them that you can learn. This interview involved more behavioral questions ("Give me an example of a time when you...") and asked what was the one thing that made me unique and why they should hire me over the 10 other candidates. She also wanted me to be able to give a very detailed description of what the Ad Trafficker does on a day to day basis, based on what I had discussed in my interviews. I did not hear back for about a week after the third phone call, so I contacted the recruiter to ask for a status update. In the end, they were looking for someone with a more technical background, and also someone is who very enthusiastic about the product. Be sure to read their mission statement on their website! Overall the whole process from the time I was contacted to the time I heard back that I would not be advancing took 3 weeks - and I did not even get to the in-person interview.

      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Hulu (Santa Monica, CA) in May 2014

      Interview

Everything went smooth and professional until the in-house interview. There's an Initial phone screen; then Phone Interview with a Campaign Manager; then an In-House interview. In-house is 4 or 5 back-to-back panel interviews of 2 people each, ranging from Ad-Traffickers to the department director. Honestly, some of these interviewers just seemed moody, entitled, and gave sarcastic responses to some of my answers. Interview questions caught me a bit off-guard as well. Drill-down of background, hypothetical scenarios, and even a management knowledge exercise on a whiteboard. Overall: It seemed a bit much just for an Ad-Trafficker role. Perhaps having just graduated, I was not experienced enough for this role.
