      Customer Success Manager Interview

      Jun 3, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at ID.me in May 2020

      Interview

I was referred to this role so did not do the typical application process, but I was frustrated with the very long, drawn out interview process. I had heard great things about the company and I was extremely qualified for the role (I have spent five years in software Customer Success), so was excited at first. The first red flag might have been that I was told the company has grown to almost 150 people, yet just in the past month or so have they put in place a real hiring process. I get "moving fast" at startups, but that seems a bit extreme. Unfortunately, the hiring process they did put in place was not necessarily rigorous, but took quite a bit of my time. Two phone calls, a basic reading/math skills online test (?), a writing test in the form of an essay, a pitch deck and presentation, and then two separate behavioral interviews. The behavioral interviews didn't even really address my skillset and experience, and were more geared towards how I work with other people (important, but odd to include without the other). The whole process took a few days shy of two months. I tried to be very accommodating and understanding because I know everyone is transitioning to working remotely, but this just seemed a bit excessive. After hearing nothing for almost a week after the last interview, I followed up twice only to receive an email at 11pm that they went with another candidate. After reaching out for more pointed feedback, radio silence. I had put in so much time during the process, that it felt disrespectful to not even proactively tell me I did not get the position. Additionally, I never felt that I truly had an opportunity to explain how I would excel in the role.

      Interview

Applied to the role. Strangely on the same day, I get a cold outreach message on Linkedin from the director of CS. I told him my calendar is open, but he wanted me to wait 7 days just for the initial interview. I told him I'm active in interviews, and am going out of town in the next few weeks. He responded stating that i'm towards the end of my interviews, the timing isn't right. First of all I didn't even say this, and what is with a company not working with a candidates deadlines. You want me to drop all interviews if i'm interviewing with you? What a joke.

      Application

      I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at ID.me

      Interview

Recruiter reached out to schedule a phone screen for a Customer Success role. They ended up being late to the scheduled phone call, and the first question they asked me was to describe what my current company does/offers. I explained that it's a health benefits (insurance) company, and the recruiter interjected to state that this likely wouldn't be a good fit and ended the call. If the recruiter had taken 30 seconds to look at my resume or look into the company that I'm currently at, it could have saved the couple of hours that I took to research ID.me and prep for the phone call.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at ID.me (Chicago, IL) in Mar 2022

      Interview

3 step process not including the initial recruiter phone screen. 1. 30 minute interview with hiring manager. 2. 30 minute meeting with 3-5 minute presentation. Presentation was role play presenting to client. 3. 3 30 minute culture interviews with 3 employees. This is where they ask the behavioral based “tell me about a time you…” questions.
