The hiring process was well-organized and smooth. Seven interviews later with six genuinely wonderful people (seriously, they were great), I felt like I was auditioning for John Locke in Lost rather than just applying for a job. And the grand finale? Silence—the kind you’d expect after confessing your deepest secrets to a priest.
Then, in a plot twist straight out of a sitcom, I finally (after two months) got the news—not from the HR administrator, but from an employee (who I had to ask, mind you) who had referred me to the company. To add to the awkwardness, the HR admin emailed me that same day to say they still hadn’t made a decision. I later found out from a friend that the candidate had already been chosen while I was still going through the interview gauntlet. And surprise, surprise—it was a former colleague of the person I’d be dual reporting to, who, by the way, barely interviewed me (basically, just a “in role you will keep me updated on new laws or set up client meetings so I can pop in”).
Hey, no hard feelings, but seriously—couldn’t we have cut to the chase a bit earlier? I would’ve totally understood :-)
