A Naukri post for my relevant role (Testing) was posted by the company. Multiple other roles like Front-End React and Angular were also posted. All roles required relevant experience. The interview location was Infosys Mahindra City, but the company hiring was Infosys BPM. The interview time was between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. The post also mentioned candidates with 0–17 days notice period.
It was already kind of suspicious that they wanted us to interview for a BPM company, but still, nothing wrong with trying.
The parking inside the office was full, so everyone who came for the interview was asked to pay ₹40 for parking outside. Fine.
Despite posting for so many roles, they seemed to have no idea how many people would show up or how to manage them. Around 50 people were allowed through the gate, but still weren't allowed into the office. To their credit, the security guards took the initiative to arrange chairs for some candidates.
Even though everyone showed up on time, the people who came later were made to stand. Thank God there was at least some shade. We were made to wait outside from 10 AM to 12 PM.
After 12, we were allowed into the entrance area, but still no chairs. After collecting our resumes and making us fill out forms, people who had completed an aptitude assessment at home were allowed to proceed. Turns out some job postings included a link and instructions for the assessment, while others didn't. The people who hadn't taken it were asked to complete it on their mobile phones.
The forms asked us to confirm things like willingness to work 24×7 shifts and having only alternate weekends off. Neither of these was mentioned in the job posting. Fine. I had already waited this long, so I figured I might as well attend the interview and gain some experience answering questions.
Whether you had taken the assessment or not, temporary ID cards were eventually issued, and people were only allowed inside the office around 1 PM. People with more than 4 years of experience were still asked to wait outside for some reason.
Surprise! Turns out they had an air-conditioned auditorium that could easily fit everyone who came for the walk-in, but they just chose not to let us in for some reason.
Surprise again! They had no interview panel available. Instead, we were asked to send an email to someone who wasn't even there and then go for lunch.
After lunch, they started calling us on our mobile phones.
"Are you interviewing for your role?"
Yes, and I proceeded to explain my interest in the role.
"Are you willing to relocate for this job?"
The posting only mentioned Chennai as the location, so I said no.
"Explain your career and your current role in your company."
I explained my career and current role in detail.
"If we gave you an offer but later asked you to work in BPM service roles, would you accept?"
No. I've built my career in my current role, and I want to continue growing in it.
"Okay, you can check with the team present there and proceed."
Guess what?
They said I hadn't cleared the round.
I should have known something was off when everyone who came for my role left after receiving a phone call and nobody stayed back for a next round. No role-specific questions were asked. No technical discussion happened. There wasn't even a panel available for the role we had applied for.
I genuinely have no idea what they were trying to achieve here. If they wanted people for BPM service roles, why not just post those roles directly? Why attract candidates with experience in Testing, Front-End Development, and other domains, only to ask them nothing related to those roles and then try to place them in a completely different position?
A lot of people took leave from work to be there. An entire day, a lot of energy, and a lot of time were wasted for everyone involved.
