      Account Manager Interview

      Dec 7, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Cincinnati, OH
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Insight Global (Cincinnati, OH) in Oct 2016

      Interview

      1. Phone Interview - Lengthy phone interview where they get to know you essentially 2. In-person interview - Met with multiple people. They use typical recruitment exercises, ask you to do things in between interviews in feedback style to see how far they can push you. People are all very nice, interview is laid back, and they ask the typical interview questions. 3. Out to lunch interview - This is to test your soft skills. This process moved fast- within a week. I rated this negative for the same reason I was turned off by this job. First is that I asked a lot of questions (which I recommend you do) and, I caught them lying a few times. They would not tell me their success rate/turnover rate. They beat around the bush every time I asked. They told me they didn't just "hire fresh out of school kids" but only "the best of the best" which was an unnecessary lie.Everyone I talked to was hired a month before they graduated, so that was a red flag for me. The next thing I will point out is that it is a shark tank style work environment. They will advertise the job as an Account Manager, but that is not what you are hired as, you have to get promoted to an Account Manager (which is fine too) but I felt like they were using a bait and switch tactic to put people in a shark tank and motivate some and weed out some. They never had the same answer when asked how many account managers were "in-training". I did find out it was over 20 ahead of you. They use a merit based promotion system but still, they had four times the amount of "managers in training" than managers. They use the merit based system as a run around for being able to run a "shark tank" styled environment. The last thing I will touch base on is the out of work requirements to get promoted. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but something to think about; you are required to go out to social events after work with your co-workers. To get the promotion you have to have people that you work with basically "vote" for you. So you will have to be willing to sacrifice your personal time to go out for drinks at least once a week. If you don't live close to the city, that can be expensive unless you want to drink and drive. Overall the requirements for this position versus the compensation are ridiculous. Do yourself a favor and if your graduating with a four-year degree, pick another job that will pay you more than 30,000 salary the first year and expect you to put in 50 hours of your week.

      Interview

Smooth phone screening process. I felt like my answers were adequately answered and I am interested to learn more. I am hesitant as the position does seem like it may be too good to be true.
