      Product Engineer Interview

      Nov 13, 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Dublin, Dublin
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Intercom (Dublin, Dublin) in Oct 2018

      Interview

I applied online and was contacted within some days. I had to complete a task on my own time. It required parsing a data file containing users and their geolocation, and I had to choose whatever language framework I wanted and output a result. I chose Python 3, which made it quick fast and easy. The code has to be uploaded or published on GitHub afterwards. I then had a call with a recruiter, where we discussed outlines on the role, and potential package. I was given an estimate of my base salary at this point. Next, I had a call with an engineer about both problem solving and culture contribution. The first one consisted in writing pseudo-code to solve a programming problem, while the second one was more on my past experience and the situations I have been in. I then had another call with two managers solely on culture contribution. This was similar to the previous section. After this call, I was invited to Dublin for a full-day on-site interview. Intercom payed for the flights and hotels. The interview consisted of the following: - Practical problem solving task, known as Minicom - Technical design involving database object modelling - Lunch with an engineer - Problem solving - Culture contribution - Product-related questions - Explanation about the role That day was quite long, lasting in total 6,5 hours, which made me exhausted at the end. Apart from this, I had a positive opinion of the process and staff at Intercom. Everyone was very friendly and interesting, which motivated me to work at Intercom. In my opinion, the practical task gives a good idea of how the candidate would work every day, and I would like to see more of this at other companies.

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Intercom (Berlin) in May 2026

      Interview

I was contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn and agreed to take part in the interview process. Received an email days later about the full interview process. If you are attentive here, you'd see the question for the problem solving interview. Unfortunately for me I wasn't able to finish it under 50 mins as I had to process my thoughts and explain them as I code. I thought I did enough to at least get to the next round but apparently I didn't.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Intercom (Dublin, Dublin) in Sep 2025

      Interview

One Leetcode style question, hiring manager chat, small edit on an existing project and a data modelling round. No system design interview for any level. Mostly worried only about data modelling for some weird reason.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Priority Queue based leetcode, college level chat system like project to make edits, another RDBMS related stuff, then a weird hiring manager chat.

Recruiter screen, then role-specific task (coding or written). Next comes a technical/values interview, followed by a multi-round onsite: pair programming, system design, product chat, and cultural fit. Process is structured and thorough; candidates highlight strong organisation but note occasional tooling issues and slow feedback.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Tell me about a time you improved something without being asked, why did you do it, what was the outcome, and how did others respond?
