      Customer Success Manager Sydney Interview

      Jun 19, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Sydney
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Intercom (Sydney) in Jun 2019

      Interview

The video screening process is a horrible way of interviewing potential new employees and feels incredibly robot like. For me it defies everything Intercom stands for which is personal and targeted communications and "being real" with people. I'm unsure who decided that having an efficient process came before caring about people and showing a genuine interest but I'm pretty sure it's not in line with your company values.

Thank you for this review. To be honest, I was very skeptical about leveraging a video interviewing tool as well. Intercom is about communicating in a personal way and I didn't want to dehumanize our process. We decided to leverage ConveyIQ (a video interviewing tool) as a step before the recruiter phone screen for a few reasons. We wanted to give our applicants an opportunity to showcase their personality, creativity and, quite literally, to give them a voice. We don't want to overlook a candidate because they don't fit the "ideal profile" on paper. Studies have shown that resumes are typically reviewed for only about 6 seconds, so this should actually help companies (like us) spend more time with candidates up front. We also wanted to improve the experience for our candidates. We are hiring in almost every time zone. This tool enables our candidates to complete the first few steps of the process in their own time. We can screen close to 200% more applicants and expedite our decision making process so you hear from us within a day or two. All of our candidates still speak with a recruiter and a hiring manager or technical interviewer prior to coming on site. ConveyIQ in no way replaces the two way communication we believe is necessary in an interview process. I know it can be a bit uncomfortable and I am sorry you had a negative experience. We believe in taking risks and trying new things. We are taking a look at the feedback and data over the next few months and will continue to evaluate the tool. If you want to follow up and hear more about the decision please email me at maggie@intercom.io
