Applied via Intercom's career page. A recruiter reached out to me and scheduled a phone screen and second round interview with the Director of Relationship Management. I was told on the second round call that they would like to bring me onsite.
The onsite interview was scheduled for less than 2 business days after my second round phone interview. There was also a presentation component to the interview, where I had to prepare a mock sales presentation to the interviewers.
As someone who is employed full time and actively interviewing, it was very difficult to find time to properly prepare for the presentation less than 2 business days from scheduling an interview to the interview itself. The presentation instructions are vague (which is fine), but when it came to actually presenting the interview, it seemed that the interviewee was looking for a specific format/approach which left me feeling like I missed the mark.
If this presentation component is used in these interviews, I feel like it needs a bit of work or attention. More time should be given to applicants to complete this, especially if the applicant is employed or the time between the phone and on-site interviews fall on business days. Clear instructions should be given to the applicant in regards to the mock presentation, and you should "set the stage" for the presentation if you want to truly showcase the interviewer's selling and presenting skills.
I feel like the presentation component of this interview didn't properly showcase my selling skills and approach. The presentation was not a good example of how I currently sell, and frankly doesn't seem exemplary of the types of customer interactions I would have with Intercom's customer base as a Relationship Manager, High Velocity. I left the interview feeling like I didn't get a chance show the interviewers my
selling approach and capabilities.
