Note that my review is just for the screening.
You receive an automated email with a link to schedule the initial screening. Other than that there is no communication (no confirmation) so you're left just hoping the person you're screening with keeps the appointment.
The HR person called about 5 min late but at least they actually called. They did not apologize for being late. Typical questions of "explain your experience" -- as your'e explaining the HR person is literally writing down word for word bc they have no clue what you are talking about. They can barely follow your resume. Then they ask what you know about the company. I gave a general answer which the HR person didn't like and accused me of "not doing research" -- remember at this stage, recruiters are usually happy to give more information about the company, talk more about the position, and answer any questions.
I then asked questions about the structure of teams and the recruiter could barely answer as in it seemed like she just started working at the company yesterday. Yet, she's annoyed that I didn't do in-depth research on the position?
Needless to say, I wasn't about to continue with a company that has recruiters with such bad attitudes. I can understand sometimes it's a 3rd party recruiting firm but this was a direct employee.
To the company: Remember that the recruiting team is the first contact a candidate has with a company. If they are late, rude, have no knowledge of the position and zero general technical knowledge, it's an immediate turn off.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at IonQ (San Francisco, CA) in Sep 2021
Interview
Great interview process: treated with respect and valued. For anyone interviewing and seeing negative reviews on the site, I would suggest considering the group you will be joining. The software development team is under a great leader/manager who cares about the development of individual team members. I find this to be the exception. I have worked for many managers who don't put the investment in and are more focused on doing their own work.
