I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at JCPenney (Mishawaka, IN) in Oct 2015
Interview
Interview was done in a group setting, and rather than ask questions they focused on group activities that the managers observed. The first activity was a building block set that you construct from plans that only one person at a time could see, and they had to direct everyone else. There was a time limit and we were not able to build it on time, but that didn't matter as the goal was to test if you could give clear and easy directions, and also if you could follow them while having a positive attitude and manners. There was also an activity where we all chose from a list of attractions to add to the store (food court, dress up station for little girls, etc), and you needed to write down a paragraph of why your plan was most beneficial to sales. We had to read what we wrote down out-loud and present it like we were in a meeting. After the activities they took the applicants out to talk individually, and that was when the job was offered and salary was discussed. Very easy interview, just dress nice in business attire and be polite.
I applied in-person. I interviewed at JCPenney (Tempe, AZ)
Interview
It was in a very professional and comfortable setting in the store. And it was conducted with the store and salon manager at that location. Both of the managers were kind and professional.
It was a group interview which led to an individual interview with a supervisor. If you pass the first round you have a higher chance of getting hired on for a position
Interview process went smoothly. Asked behavioral questions and situational questions that catered to how you deal with a variety of customer personalities. Also asked about previous employment roles. Offered a job on the first interview.
