I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at JCPenney (Algonquin, IL) in Nov 2016
Interview
I applied online and ten days later (tuesday) got a call. They asked me to come in for a group "Talent Tryout" at 11:00 that saturday. There were six of us there at the tryout, and after asking us why we chose to apply there, we did two activities. There was a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and it wasn't too stressful.
Activity 1: blocks. One person would be shown a picture of a structure made of blocks, and would instruct the rest of the group on how to build it together using the pile of blocks on the table. Everyone got a turn to be the instructor.
Activity 2: Everyone got a sheet with 4 ideas on it. You got a few minutes to choose one idea from your sheet and plan on how to argue for it. Then we all went around and pitched our ideas to the group.
It was overall an easy interview. In a group setting of interviewees, we were asked to each talk about what we thought good customer service was. Then, we had some blocks to build a structure, a house I remember. Without the person you were instructing being able to see the blueprint, you had to describe what to do with the blocks without touching the blocks. I didn't know how I did, but I got hired. This was the holidays of 2017. :)
