I applied online and got called for an interview about a week later. Easy interview, no behavioral questions, I was only asked about my availability and my prior experience. Then backgrd. check and my mouth was promptly swabbed right then on the spot for a saliva drug test. Once those came back clean, I was called back in, and was then told that once my 2 years prior Produce Clerk experience got "verified" by their (seemingly worthless and ridiculous Union company), that I would be paid $9.00/hr. and not $7.75/hr. min. wage. 2 weeks later, I got my first paycheck, and I was paid at min. wage $7.75/hr. Kroger HR manager who hired me said that they were "unable to verify" my prior experience, so I would not be getting a pay increase. That's crap, all they had to do was pick up the phone and call my prior job...it's either a lie or they're just lazy. I left immediately! This is very strenuous work with repetitive heavy lifting for hours on end, for very little $ money. **Also, during the first interview I was told that since I had produce experience, I could very possibly be promoted to dept. manager in as little as 6 months. More crap-- One of my produce coworkers had been there for 3 years and was only making $8.00/hr. STEER CLEAR!!
