As someone who has been in the commercial cleaning/floor care industry for some time, I was happy to see a posting for a RSM for Karcher. After being contacted by the Karcher recruiter, she notified me that the position was actually for their Hotsy pressure washer line. This is where things got weird. The VP of sales from Hotsy scheduled a phone interview with me and in my opinion was pretty unprofessional. Rather than ask me about my qualifications and explain to me more about the opportunity, he just tried to tell me reasons as to why I wouldn't like the job. "It's a lot of travel, you'll have to get your hands dirty, its not a normal sales job". All of which is fine, as i've been in the industry for a long time and have done all of these job tasks successfully many times before, After our "interview" he asked me to email him 3 references that he could call and "confirm I am who I say I am", which I have never had to do before after a first phone conversation.
Two weeks past with no updates, so I reached out to the recruiter and the same day the VP of sales emailed to ask if I could block off two hours on a work day to video chat with two of his other RSM's, which I gladly did. The day of these calls, I took time off of work to make the meetings and after 15 minutes passed our scheduled meeting time, no one had jumped on the call to join me. I assumed I was being stood up and jumped off the call.
I emailed the VP and let him know what had happened in which he responded, "sorry, the RSM's flight was delayed and she couldn't make the meeting". I understand these things happen, but an email, call, or text would have been professional, especially since I took time off work to meet with them.
I was told the meeting would be rescheduled, then radio silence, and finally two weeks later I received an email saying they would not be moving forward with me. Such a bizarre and unprofessional process, I expected much more from a Karcher brand.
I accepted a position as an RSM with a competitor in the industry.
