The interview started with a coding test I had to do on paper for around 30 minutes. The test was completely in japanese which made things for me a bit difficult. Topics were are a mix between coding questions, encryption and other IT fields.
After the test, I was joined by 2 engineers and we went through the test. On topics I couldn't answer, they gave me a hint in how to solve it which sometimes made me think about the answer, sometimes not.
Besides that I got asked about previous employment and why I came to Japan.
Sadly I wasn't offered the chance to ask anything back about the company. This was either because my test was too bad and they 'gave up' on me, or because that's just not common in Japan.
I applied online. I interviewed at LINE (Tokyo) in Mar 2026
