After having two successful interviews with two managers I was offered the job contingent on a background check. A few days later, I received a call from HR indicating that they were rescinding their offer based on my credit report. I've been in banking for many years and always maintained excellent credit. When banks started to fail, the bank I worked for was one of the casualties. As a result of this job loss my credit suffered, understandably so given the circumstances and poor economic environment. I explained this situation to them but they didn't care. I have no criminal record. I'm not a drug user. (they test) I have no history to suggest I'm a bad person, just a credit profile reflective of poor economic times precipitated by a job loss that was outside of my control. If M&T Bank is going to judge me solely based on my credit report and not the totality of my overall profile and merits, they are not a company I want to work for nor do business with.
