I interviewed with two recruiters at once on a 45 minute video call who asked quite technical questions (which was pretty arduous for an initial screening call). It was quite dry and robotic, and I tried to lift up the mood with peppiness but it wasn't reciprocated. I did move on to a video call 2 weeks later with the Director/Hiring Manager which was pleasant, but what really bothered me was him leading me on. We had what I thought was a great conversation and culture/technical fit, and he enthusiastically told me that the recruiter would be back to me ASAP about "next steps in the interview process." He wasn't positive who I would "meet with next" but essentially made me believe I was moving on to the next round. After stringing me along, ignoring my thank you note, and a period of silence, I ended up getting an AUTOMATED rejection email. Incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful.
