I saw an ad on Craigslist saying a new "resort" just opened and needed lmts with experience. The ad didn't say the name of the "resort." I emailed my resume & 10 minutes later got a text for an interview to come the next day. He gave the address and time to show up. It was Massage Heights...NOT a resort as they advertised. I already was bummed about this, but went ahead with the interview. Inside it was clean and relaxing and the front desk was nice. I had to fill out an application even though I emailed my resume. The wait was short before the interview. In the interview, he asked my availability and how soon I could start. He was very nice and flexible with schedules. He asked me if I had any questions so I asked about pay structure. He told me $16 per massage plus tips and it wasnt negotiable. I was surprised by how low the pay offer was, as it isn't even competitive with my city. I have 7 years experience and was being offered lower than my very first LMT job ever (again from 7 years ago.) Then he asked to do a 20-30 minute sample massage, but I told them I was no longer interested because the pay isn't competitive and I didnt like the fact that the ad I responded to said, "resort." I felt like they are trying to cover up who they are. I cannot get over how incredibly low the pay is. I guess it's good for your very first job for about 90 days, but any more than that then you are doing yourself and the industry a huge disservice. I turned down this exceptionally low paying position. It is well below industry standards. Im amazed at the low pay. It really is sad.
