I applied through college or university. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Mattel (Los Angeles, CA) in Mar 2017
Interview
At my college, we had around eight departments come and interview students. Each department group was given a binder of snapshots of student work/resume and called over those they were interested in. You weren't aware of which departments were coming and which you would be interviewed with. Some had one person others had two or three in a group, it just depended. I interviewed with all but two of the teams. A week later I received an offer from two teams and had the amazing opportunity to choose which team. I contacted both teams for more information and then chose/accepted the next day. I didn't' receive official paperwork until a few weeks before the start date which was over two months later.

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Mattel (El Segundo, CA) in Jul 2024
Interview
3 virtual interviews all within one week- #1 phone call with recruiter, #2 with Hiring Managers, and #3 with Creative Director. Everyone was super friendly. I thought the interviews had gone well, but after 3 weeks, I got an email saying the requisition had been canceled.
I had a preliminary phone interview that essentially made sure I could verify that my portfolio was my own and if I had projects that may be relevant to the work that were omitted due to space. After that I had a second video interview with the heads of the departments I would be working with in which I was asked a series of questions that seemed to be more about if I would be a good fit for the team culture since they had seen my work already. I was asked to describe one project from start to finish. It was a fairly straightforward interview and I found every question to be relevant and reasonable.
