I thought the interview with the hiring manager was very good. She’s really approachable and seemingly very open and honest. I will warn future candidates of the writing test. I have given writing assessments and taken on writing assessments throughout my entire career and I’ve never been given 20 pages of copy and asked to synthesize it into a 600 word CEO communication with very minor direction or even a recommended time allotment to complete the exercise. Not sure if the writing exercise and its minimalist instructions sets one up for success. It is a very ambitious and time consuming ask in my experience. That said, I suggest you ask in the interview for pre-guidance on the writing exercise, such as tone, message strategy and CEO/company culture so your time spent on the writing exercise will be will be better spent. Otherwise, you are completely shooting in the dark.
