I was referred by my former manager to interview for this role, which would report to her. She really wanted me to work for her again and said she enjoyed working with me. The role was actually a level below my previous role at a larger company, but my previous manager explained that it was due to a leveling difference between the two companies, and she would try to promote me quickly, so I decided to try it. I sent her my resume, and the recruiter scheduled a phone screen with me about a week later. I had a simple phone screen with the recruiter, which covered the basic questions such as previous work experience, salary expectations, etc. I passed the phone screen and had my first interview with the EVP of Customer Success at that company. Normally, the first round would be with my former manager. However, because I knew her, they didn't want there to be a conflict of interest. I did feel that the EVP interviewing me for my level was a bit of an overkill and would lead to calibration issues as I seemed to be the only one interviewed by her. During the first round, the EVP was a few minutes late and seemed a bit distracted because she had to respond to an email from the CEO. I said it was ok, and she could take her time. She asked me to walk over my resume and asked a few standard behavioral questions. Then, 10 minutes or so into the interview allowed time, she started asking if I had any questions. This was unusual as usually people don't ask this until the end, so I wondered if she was still distracted by something else (like the CEO's email), or I had said something that made her decide to fail me. The latter should be unlikely as I've been through many interviews and usually don't get failed so early on in the process for a role that I had relevant experience for. I asked her a few questions, then she went back and asked me a few more behavioral questions, and asked me if I had any more questions. This went back and forth a few times and seemed a bit awkward.
