      Software Engineer Interview

      Sep 10, 2015
      Anonymous employee
      Portland, OR
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Monsoon (Portland, OR) in May 2014

      Interview

There were 3 stages to the interview process: a phone interview, an in-person technical interview, and another in-person behavioral/cultural fit interview. The phone interview was fairly cursory... an opportunity for them to ensure that they weren't wasting their time in bringing me in for face-to-face conversation. The technical interview was conducted in 3 sections, each by different members of the team. The first phase was an overview of data structures and algorithmic complexity, the second was an object-oriented design exercise, and the final part was a pair-programming exercise. The cultural fit interview was also a 3-part process, wherein I met with folks from other departments.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The phone interview was primarily a baseline-level technical interview, with basic questions about OOP, algorithms, and other programming concepts. It was conducted using a shared online workspace. The technical interview was primarily focused on data structures and complexity, pair programming, and object-oriented design

      Interview

They have a really excellent indie "talent finder," and don't used stuffed-suit recruiting firms. If they're still using her when you apply, get friendly but be firm and genuine. It'll have good results - if you don't get the job, you didn't want it. Multi-round interviews consisting of a phone screen, initial interview, and second interview. While engineers are asked to solve a couple problems demonstrating object-oriented familiarity and pair programming, this company hires almost entirely for team fit, and it usually works well - the team fit is good.

      Question 1

Describe and design a Monopoly game based on object-oriented programming concepts.
