This was a great interview process. After talking with one of their recruiters I was given the Nerdery Assessment Test or NAT. I really liked this assignment. Having been a consultant before I felt like this was a great way to assess new people coming in and see how well they can operate working with story requirements and design comps. The assignment itself was suppose to take somewhere from 8 to 12 hours, and I ended up using the full 12 but left comments on what I'd do next. The assignment itself is very clear in what they are looking for. In the end I didn't do anything that special, but did make sure to emphasis scalability in my architecture, which seemed to go over really well. After submitting the assignment on a Sunday, I received feedback the next day and had an onsite interview scheduled that Thursday. From reading interviews reviews, and the company reviews on Glassdoor I wasn't really sure what to expect but surely none of the reviews prepared me for what was a very pleasant and relaxed interview. At the onsite I spoke with two senior leaderships individuals in my discipline and ended up having a great conversation about technology. We went over my past history, and delved into my NAT, which is where the most challenging technical questions where asked. After talking through my choices I was given a tour of the office. My interview was scheduled for an hour but we ended up going well over the allotted time, which I appreciated. I asked about the direction of the company, and some of the negative comments I saw on glassdoor, and they made sure to answer all of my questions thoughtfully and honestly. After the interview I received an offer the next day and was extremely happy. The offer was competitive and had decent benefits. I happily accepted and can't wait to start.

Get the one hour phone call to see if you're not too much of a dweeb, not too much of a cool guy. They ask you about what you like to do when you're not working so make sure you have something to say. I can't fathom anyone who'd want to work for their whole life but I guess there are nerds out there that have no life. I've seen their video and surely they got some weird folks working there who like collecting receipts with some special type of recycled paper. Then they give you a nerd assessment test which turns out to be a waste of a day's time.

I was first approached by someone who viewed my profile on LinkedIn. He called me and we talked about my background. I was completely honest and told him I thought of it as more of a hobby, than a job. After all, I had never done professional iOS development before. Once he said I should still apply, I filled out the form on the website, and the next day someone contacted me about coming in for an in-person interview. The interview was straight forward. Who I am, my background, how I found out about the job, etc. It lasted no more than 20 minutes. The next day I got an email with a description of a code challenge, the iOS version of the NAT. I won't give away what challenge, as that's no fun, but even with my fairly little experience I found it to be easy, and fun. Sure it was difficult, but nothing impossible. The Monday after I submitted my completed code challenge, I got an email saying they wanted me to come in and discuss it. This didn't surprise me, because I was told that they bring everyone in, good and bad, just for feedback. I walked into the little room with 3 current employees, and 1 of the developers said, "You're here, and that's a really good thing" After an hour of a really informal interview, and code review, they said I should hear in a week about whether or not I get an offer. But I didn't wait a week. I had an email with an offer before I even got home.
