I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Norfolk Southern in Mar 2019
Interview
I applied online in early December and I got an email back the next day asking me set up a date for a video interview. I did the video interview about a week later. A question would pop up on the screen and if you didn't like your response you would have one chance to do it again. After this interview I didn't hear anything back for three months and I add pretty much given up hope when I got an e-mail saying I moved on to the live interview round. I did the live interview with one HR person and a mechanical supervisor. Five days later I got an email with an offer. Just a small note, for the drug test they cut my hair for it and it was not a small chunk of hair.
I applied through college or university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Norfolk Southern (Atlanta, GA) in Feb 2017
Interview
First was a sit down interview on campus with a reps from the mechanical department and HR after meeting them at an on campus career fair the day prior. After that I was given an online personality assessment geared towards how you would react in certain situations as a supervisor. After that I was flown to Atlanta for a final interview and meeting with several reps from various departments, most of the questions they asked there were very similar to the ones asked after the career fair. Not really any technical questions since a vast majority of the mechanical positions are as shop supervisors, most of them are more geared towards what's your background in leadership positions and management style.
