Interview
Once you get selected from a list of online applicants, the company will invite you to an interview day with 50 to 100 other prosepects. The set-up is very professional and it is obvious the company has revenue to burn in such an elaborate ordeal. If you have no rail experience you may feel clueless...reality is that many with rail experience were clueless as well. They definately have the sales advantage in bennies, and they are honest in letting you know that you will work your tail off to get them.

What have you done to demonstrate your commitment to safety in your current or past job?
I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at Norfolk Southern (Roanoke, VA) in Nov 2017
Interview
VERY brief. One manager from Roanoke, VA, and an HR person from Norfolk, VA. I was finished in less than 15 minutes. I asked, and was specifically told which position I would be interviewing for. Later, this was not honored. I traveled 5 hours for the interview with no help of any kind, not even an overnight stay was offered.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
Could I discipline or fire someone? It was said that "some people don't need to be out here," could I participate in a firing or disciplinary process. The discipline/firing was stressed.
From my first application until I began working it was a six month process. Nothing moved quickly. There were false starts and delays. A very slow, cumbersome process. They did well at communication though to let you know that things were progressing, just at a snail's pace.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Norfolk Southern (Atlanta, GA) in Jul 2015
Interview
The NS interview process was a pretty simple but lengthy one. I was brought to their Atlanta complex for a two-day interview session. The first day was a panel presentation followed by a social held at a nearby hotel - the start of your evaluation. The next day was a series of two interviews conducted by HR and transportation reps. I found the interview questions to be pretty easy with no curveball questions. One thing that bothered me from the beginning was that the lead Transportation HR rep was clearly disinterested in the process. Once the interview was concluded, they said I'd be notified of their decision within two weeks; it took six weeks. Clearly I played a part in their decision not to make an offer. However, I'll never know the reason why because they did not provide any feedback other than the non-select notification sent via email. While I was disappointed about their decision, I am glad that I am not working for NS simply because of my HR experience.
