I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual in Nov 2015
Interview
Very complex process. mine was 3 steps.
1) wasn't even an interview. just an info session. As long as you show up wearing pants youll get to the next phase.
2) preinterview you take a personality assessment to determine who your "coach" will be, and they will be interviewing you for the remainder of the process. Also need to think of first 60 people you will call. You do the work, its pretty hard to screw up. basic "why do you want to work here? why this field?" questions.
3) preinterview you have to call 45 people (30 you know, 15 you dont) and have them fill out a survey about you and the industry. You do that, you basically have a job. that was when my offer was made.
Straightforward process, interviewed with them on campus. They provided the information I needed. I decided to not move ahead with the interview process as it did not align with my goals, but the interviewers were cordial and professional.
Felt like they were selling me something the whole time. Super easy to talk to, but something just felt off the whole time. Had multiple phases of them explaining why they're so perfect and great to work for (massive selection bias in some of their numbers)
